Angel Tello owner of Tello's Grille and Cafe in Port Washington. Mr. Tello has supported just about every youth organization and cause in our communities over the years. Mr. Tello will be honored at our annual Character Counts Community Celebration to be held at the Niederkorn Library on Monday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m.


Officer Emily Neese

Officer Neese of Saukville Police Department has a very hands on approach and has a strong working relationship with many of the families in the Village of Saukville. Officer Neese will also be recognized at our annual Community Celebration winch will be held at the Niederkorn library on Monday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m.

John, Elizabeth, and the start of their young family immigrated to the United States from Hungary with $1.25 in their pockets. Within 24 hours of arriving in Chicago, John had a job. Eventually, the family made their way to Saukville and they have called our community home ever since. They have been generous supporters of our community and have made an especially significant impact through their philanthropy in our community through the Wisconsin Humane Society – Ozaukee Campus and the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA, which bears their name.

Receiving Character Counts recognition awards were Tami Wojciehowski, an active volunteer in the Port Washington schools; Joann Wiesner, a retired Port Washington-Saukville School District librarian and longtime member of Saukville’s Oscar Grady Library Board; and Richard Thomas, former Port Washington Police Department Police Chief who proposed the Character Counts initiative. Mike Krocka was recognized for his endless volunteer support of events in the Saukville community to help enrich the lives of others, especially our youth. Also, for being an adult role model for others to follow.

Kathie Schaefer was recognized for her leadership of the United Way of Northern Ozaukee in securing donations from area businesses and citizens to help support 16 caring agencies in Ozaukee County, providing much needed support to needy families.

Joy Dreier was recognized for her unselfish and tireless efforts to feed hungry children and families through the Food Pantry, and her inspiration and coordination of the “Gift a Child” program at Christmas time to help make Christmas a happier one for hundreds of children.

John and Beth Walch were recognized for their commitment to the youth in our communities, involvement and sponsorship of a Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, and as an example of a family exhibiting THE SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER®.

We would like to wish Ben Larson the best of luck as he heads off to college this fall. Ben was the latest winner of a $750 Character Counts Scholarship. He plans on majoring in neuroscience and psychology. Ben is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for his peers and others in the community.
Matthew McMahon Matthew McMahon
2014 Scholarship Recipient

Matthew is attending Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, MN where he plans to major in chemistry and is considering obtaining his PhD for a career in research. He is currently involved in Vasa Orchestra, Chemistry Club and Humane Society Club. In high school, he was part of the Cross Country team, Symphonic Winds, Best Buddies Club, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Matthew is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for his peers and others in the community.
Brett Kirmse Brett Kirmse

Brett is attending Concordia University Wisconsin. He is aspiring to be an Athletic Director for a high school or university. He was the Captain of the Basketball Team, and also participated in baseball, tennis, and Badger Boys. Brett is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for his peers and others in the community.

Alec is attending UW-Madison for Political Science/Business. He was Captain of the Ocean Bowl Team and participated in the Math Team, Men's Choir and Badger Boys. Alec is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for his peers and others in the community.

Kristin is attending UW-Eau Claire for Business/History. She was a member of Badger Girls State, was Captain of Varsity Volleyball, a Group Leader for AWANA and a member of the National Honor Society. Kristin is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for her peers and others in the community.

Nathan is attending UW-Whitewater for Psychology. He participated in Football, Track, was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Outstanding Spanish Student Award. Nathan is a great CHARACTER COUNTS!® role model for his peers and others in the community.

Micaela was a Peer Buddy and active in Book Club, Key Club, Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Vocal Music Festival, Pit Band, Solo Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Vocal Jazz Competition, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Womens Vocal Jazz.
